PROJECT / WHONIVERSE

CLIENT / BBC STUDIOS

ROLE / ART DIRECTION

With the launch of the ‘Whoniverse’, Doctor Who is shifting to a world-led franchise, expanding beyond the title character. Whoniverse will become the master brand for the franchise, including all new core series and spin-offs.

BBC Studios Creative were challenged with creating a logo animation that will appear before the opening credits of all future series. The goal was to create a brand ident that would celebrate the Doctor Who connection, incorporating legacy characters and iconography, celebrating the past whilst also looking ahead to the future.

The team worked extremely close with showrunner Russell T Davies & Bad Wolf productions to create an animation that would excite all Doctor Who fans, past and present.

I was brought onto the project as art director to lead and develop the visual identity for the brand and animation. I was heavily involved throughout the design process, from initially blocking out camera sequences and animatics in pre production, creating a variety of styleframes and storyboards exploring look and feel, through to leading the art direction on the final sequence.
